On-Page, Off-Page & Technical SEO

3.1 What is SEO?

  • SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is the process of improving a website’s visibility on search engines like Google, Bing, or Yahoo.

  • The goal is to get your website to appear on the first page of search results.

  • It helps attract organic (unpaid) traffic from search engines.

  • SEO focuses on optimizing both website content and technical performance.

Example:
If someone searches for “Best cafes in Pune”, and your cafe’s website appears on the top — that’s because of good SEO.

Simple Definition:

SEO is the technique of optimizing a website to improve its ranking in search engine results pages (SERPs).

3.2 Types of SEO

SEO has three main types:

1. On-Page SEO

  • Optimization done on the website itself to make it search engine friendly.

  • Focuses on content and website structure.

Key On-Page SEO Factors:

  • Title Tags: The clickable headline shown on Google results.

  • Meta Description: Short summary that appears below the title.

  • Headings (H1, H2, etc.): Organize content clearly.

  • Keyword Optimization: Use relevant keywords naturally in the text.

  • URL Structure: Keep it short and descriptive (e.g., /digital-marketing-basics).

  • Internal Linking: Linking to other pages within your site.

  • Image Optimization: Use descriptive file names and alt text.

  • Mobile Friendliness: Website should look good on phones and tablets.

Example:
Adding “Best Digital Marketing Course in Ahmednagar” in the title and content for better ranking.

2. Off-Page SEO

  • Activities done outside the website to improve its reputation and authority.

  • Helps search engines trust your website.

Key Off-Page SEO Techniques:

  • Backlink Building: Getting links from other reputable websites.

  • Social Media Sharing: Promoting content on social platforms.

  • Guest Blogging: Writing articles on other websites with links to your own.

  • Influencer Outreach: Collaborating with bloggers or industry experts.

  • Forum Posting & Commenting: Participating in online discussions related to your niche.

Example:
If a famous blog links to your site, Google sees your site as trustworthy — improving ranking.

3. Technical SEO

  • Focuses on the backend structure and performance of the website.

  • Ensures that search engines can easily crawl and index your site.

Key Technical SEO Factors:

  • Website Speed: Faster loading improves ranking.

  • Mobile Optimization: Website must be mobile-friendly.

  • Secure Website (HTTPS): SSL certificate required.

  • XML Sitemap: Helps Google understand your site structure.

  • Robots.txt: Guides search engines which pages to crawl or ignore.

  • Fix Broken Links & Errors: 404 pages should be avoided.

  • Structured Data (Schema Markup): Helps Google show rich results like ratings or FAQs.
